Welcome to
Creative with Nature Online School
After many years of teaching willow weaving through in person workshops at my studio in West Yorkshire, around the UK and internationally I’m delighted to finally bring my teaching online.
The Creative with Nature Online School is a place to learn willow weaving and basketry wherever you are in the world, with detailed, practical video tuition that you can work through at your own pace. Designed with beginners and those developing their skills in mind.
I’ve always loved sharing the knowledge I’ve gathered over my 20 plus years of working with willow and creating online courses gives me the opportunity to share that knowledge with more people, wherever you are on your weaving journey.
My first course, The Asymmetrical Basket, is now live.
Come and weave with me.
Meet Your Teacher
Hi, I’m Joe and I’ve been working with willow for more than 20 years.
What began as a hobby during a difficult period of my life grew into a lifelong passion and eventually into Creative with Nature. I’ve had the privilege of teaching hundreds of people through workshops, private sessions and projects across the UK and internationally.
I’ve taught people of all ages and abilities, from those picking up willow for the very first time to experienced weavers looking to develop their skills further.
What I love most about teaching is seeing someone discover that they can make something they weren’t sure they could. Weaving asks us to slow down, pay attention and work with our hands. Part of our cultural heritage it connects us to our ancestors and to our natural environment. I believe there is something really special in that.
After many years of teaching in person, I’m delighted to now bring my teaching online and share the knowledge and techniques I’ve gathered along the way with you, wherever you are on your weaving journey.

The Asymmetrical Basket Online Course
The Asymmetrical Basket has been one of my most popular workshops for more than a decade, with hundreds of people making their first basket through this project. I’m delighted to now bring the workshop online, so you can learn with me wherever you are.
In this course, we’ll make the Asymmetrical Basket together from start to finish, while learning many of the fundamental techniques that form the foundations of round basketry. The basket’s beautiful, contemporary shape make it an enjoyable project in its own right, but it has also been carefully chosen because it brings together so many useful techniques in one complete basket.
With over 6 hours of detailed video tuition, I’ll guide you through each stage of the process, helping you understand the willow, develop your confidence and learn to work with the material rather than against it.
The course is designed with beginners in mind, but it’s also suitable for more experienced weavers who want to strengthen their fundamentals or simply enjoy a beautiful project from start to finish. Through the video I give you various design and weave options allowing you to practice and develop your skills time and again if you so wish.
You’ll have lifetime access, so there’s no need to rush. Pause the videos, practise, return to a lesson when you need to, and take the time to find your own rhythm with the willow.
The basket that teaches you to weave.
Willow Soaking PDF
Preparing willow is one of the most important and often most confusing parts of willow weaving.
Many of the problems people experience don’t begin in the weaving itself, but long before that, in how the material has been prepared.
If you’ve ever had rods snap mid-weave or found yourself unsure whether your willow is ready, this guide is designed to help you understand why and what to do differently.
Inside, you’ll find a comprehensive, experience-led resource built from over 20 years of working with willow, bringing together the knowledge that is often difficult to pass on in a single workshop or conversation.
